THE CONCEPT OF HEAVEN AND THE ASCENSION

The concept of Heaven has been a central theme in many religions and belief systems throughout human history even though it is yet uncertain whose concept it was. In general, Heaven is considered to be a place of eternal happiness, peace, and bliss, often described as a paradise or a utopia. While the idea of Heaven varies across different religions and cultures, most share the belief that it is a place where the souls of the righteous or the blessed go after death.

Whether it appeared to someone in a dream is anybody’s guess but what we are led to believe is that one’s arrival there can only be an after death transition, as predicated by the Bible, and that one must earn the merits for such evolution.

There are myths that attest that in the beginning Heaven and Earth were closely webbed but experientially different because earth existence came with catastrophic events, suffering, sin and death.

The Metaphysicians view on heaven varies, as they often emphasize subjective interpretations and personal spiritual experiences. They may perceive it as an ideal state of existence, a transcendent realm of divine harmony, or a symbolic representation of ultimate fulfillment and spiritual enlightenment.

But the concept of Heaven has its roots in ancient civilizations, such as the Mesopotamians, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, who believed in an afterlife where the souls of the deceased would go. However, the modern concept of Heaven as a place of eternal reward for the righteous is primarily associated with Abrahamic religions, such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

In Judaism, the concept of Heaven is referred to as Gan Eden, which means the Garden of Eden. It is believed to be a place of eternal bliss where the souls of the righteous go after death to be reunited with their loved ones and God. However, the Jewish concept of Heaven is not as emphasized as in other religions, and it is often viewed as a temporary resting place until the arrival of the Messianic era.

Christianity’s concept of Heaven is central to its belief system, and it is often described as the ultimate reward for the righteous. According to Christian theology, Heaven is the dwelling place of God and the angels, and it is a place of eternal peace, joy, and happiness. Christians believe that those who accept Jesus Christ as their savior and lead a virtuous life will go to Heaven after death.

In Islam, the concept of Heaven is referred to as Jannah, which means paradise. Muslims believe that Jannah is a place of eternal happiness, where the souls of the righteous will be reunited with their loved ones and rewarded with eternal bliss. In Islam, the concept of Heaven is closely tied to the idea of the afterlife, and it is considered to be the ultimate goal of every Muslim.

There is however, a school of thought that believes heaven is within. This is associated with mysticism and spiritual philosophies, such as certain branches of Christianity, Hinduism, and New Age spirituality.

Disciplines used for attaining a higher level of spirituality vary across different traditions but some common disciplines include meditation, prayer, contemplation, mindfulness, chanting, ritual practices, study of sacred texts, self-reflection, service to others, and adherence to ethical principles. These practices aim to deepen one’s connection with the divine or transcendental aspects of existence.

Nirvana forms another concept which is found in Buddhism and which represents the ultimate goal of spiritual liberation. It refers to the cessation of suffering and the extinguishing of desires and attachments, leading to a state of supreme peace, enlightenment, and transcendence from the cycle of rebirth.
