Antioxidants: Finding Ways for Health Protection

Antioxidants have become so popular that it’s one of the new buzzwords today. Take careful note of food labels in grocery stores because colorful fruits and vegetables are packed with them, even cosmetics – skin care, hair care are now on the bandwagon singing its praises. Hallelujah! In an article From the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) the grant review panelist; Dr. A. N. Tony Kong talks about his most recent findings. He wanted to know how antioxidants in plant foods affect genes that turn the cancer process on and off. He said, “It’s a balancing act. A little inflammation reaction in a healthy immune system is a good thing, but too much is harmful. Too much oxidative stress and too few antioxidant vitamins like C, D and E, along with not consuming enough phytochemicals – like sulforaphane in broccoli, EGCG in green tea and dozens more in all kinds of plant foods, leads to ill health.” How does this happen? It has to do with the way our immune system responds to infections by fighting the virus or bacteria that is causing them. The site that is inflamed is where the battle is fought. The longer the inflammation persists, the likelihood of increased risk for certain cancers. Some cancers cited are liver cancer and the risk increases, due to having hepatitis or H. pylori, the bacteria that is responsible for stomach ulcers or in extreme cases, stomach cancer. Inflammatory bowel disease can increase the risk for colon cancer also. Versatility of

TRAUMA STALKS THE ISLAND OF JAMAICA – Marlene Daley

Long after the conundrum of murder, mayhem, and the seemingly drawn out psychological expanse of time to the “Nine Night,” (the cultural culmination of mourning of close knit family and friends), the heart remains painfully expanded and heavily laden, beating without volition in the breast of those who in the moment, might have offered their life as a sacrifice for those so deeply loved. It leaves a void too deep and personal to be truly felt by anyone else but those so riveted in such moments in time. It is never as simple as emotions emanating from even those who know loss, since degrees and threshold vary and time begins to heal, albeit slowly. With peripheral vision blurred and focus becoming transfixed in singularity of grief and suffering, the processing of effects and repercussions on the wider community is often overlooked. As a result and in direct proportion to Jamaica’s long standing crime wave, many of her citizens, including children, are merely existing through the severe burden of post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety and with remedial psychological care slow in coming or in some instances, not accessible at all, it renders a lack of motivation and the drive to achieve anything in life. Of course the wider society suffers in work attendance and productivity but this pales in contrast to the personal suffering that ensues. Coupled with this is the fact that there is a systemically lack of positive uplifting ambitious figures to emulate, which adds to a prevailing

TRANSITIONING TO COSMIC REALITY

I’ve become a sucker for any plausible rationale or understanding of what permeates globally in the mindset of our leaders and the average man, in brutality, violence, death and many untold injustices meted out to fellow humans? How can the highest intelligence of species on earth continue on its baffling downward spiral? How can the species that God saw fit to give dominion over all others become so far removed from the tenets of biblical principles, practices and decency that we all know to be true, and fail to exercise this knowing, thereby allowing such deep erosion of the guidelines, that have led humanity to unquestionably become the most brutal of all in the animal kingdom? What of wars, infamy, bigotry, prejudices such as those set against the pervading yet subliminal notion that Blacks have not evolved much beyond half human, homosexuality, sexual indiscretions, misogyny, mis-education leading to the tempering of common sense and man-made diseases that are deliberately spread in poor countries to facilitate scientific research? Is the Bulgarian Beinsa Douno, one of the world’s most revered spiritualist and philosopher, speaking to this obvious transitioning through a world dominated by an evil force or societies of atheists disguised as Christians? Where is the light? I believe it is evident in his words here. Peter Konstantinov Deunov, also known as Beinsa Douno, was born in 1886. A few days before his death in 1944, in a trance-like state, he wrote a prophecy. This prophecy could just as well have been
